Central Cacao company Projects
Central Cacao Company is driving change in cacao agroforestry with innovative projects in and around the biologically rich buffer zone of Laguna Lachúa National Park. Beyond managing our own plantations and those of our investors, we are deeply committed to conserving adjacent forests and fostering climate resilience. By training local producers, hosting educational visits to our agroforestry plots, and partnering on climate adaptation workshops, we empower communities to embrace sustainable practices. Our mission blends environmental stewardship with economic opportunity, creating a thriving future for cacao and the ecosystems that support it.
finca paso cocodrilo cacao agroforestry projectFinca Paso Cocodrilo is the beating heart of Central Cacao Company—a 50-hectare model farm on the western edge of Laguna Lachúa National Park, setting the gold standard for sustainable cacao farming in Guatemala. And we’re just getting started! Here, cacao grows in harmony with nature. Instead of monoculture, we plant 1,100 cacao trees per hectare alongside 75 timber species, creating a thriving ecosystem that benefits both farmers and the forest. By integrating leguminous shade trees for natural fertilization and valuable native timbers like mahogany, cedar, and rosul (protected under CITES Appendix II), we ensure a regenerative, climate-friendly future for cacao. But climate change is making farming more unpredictable. To adapt to extreme weather and ensure healthy harvests, we’ve invested in a rainwater irrigation system, using collected water to keep our cacao trees thriving even in dry conditions. Finca Paso Cocodrilo isn’t just a farm—it’s a vision for the future, where biodiversity, sustainability, and economic resilience go hand in hand. |
LACHUA AGROFORESTRY CARBON PROJECTAt Central Cacao Company, we're transforming cacao farming in Guatemala’s Lachúa Ecoregion into a force for good—for farmers, forests, and the planet. In partnership with the Laguna Lachúa Foundation, we support over 350 farmers in growing sustainable, carbon-positive cacao, all while protecting the incredible biodiversity of Laguna Lachúa National Park. How? By blending agroforestry with forest conservation, we create high-yield, climate-friendly cacao farms that don’t just produce amazing chocolate, but also help fight climate change. We go beyond farming—we invest in farmers. With performance-based contracts, we provide hands-on training, organic resources, and access to key subsidies like PROBOSQUES and PINPEP. Plus, we help farmers achieve Fairtrade and Organic certifications, ensuring they earn premium prices for top-quality cacao. Together, we’re growing a greener future—for communities, for nature, and for chocolate lovers worldwide |
